Mull of Kintyre - The Song

Mull of Kintyre was written by Paul McCartney and Denny Laine and released by Wings as a single in 1977.

This music video, which accompanied the release, was recorded on Saddell Beach, Kintyre, and featured the Campbeltown Pipe Band. The single passed almost unnoticed in the USA, but in Britain it sold over two million copies and became the best selling single of the 1970s, outselling any of the Beatles' records. Mull of Kintyre is a wonderfully evocative song and is as relevant to the area today as when it was first written.

The photograph on the front of the record sleeve (above, left) features Davaar Island, at the mouth of Campbeltown Loch. The cottage at the beginning of the video is still there on Saddell Beach (above, right), although the fence at the front and the lean to on the left hand side have since been removed. The beach is privately owned, but the public are welcome.
